Thankful Garden Cards with Masks & Blending Brushes

These pretty hydrangea cards were inspired by the amazingly creative Patty Bennett. Patty had the brilliant idea of stamping the flowers on a piece of Designer Series Paper from the Full of Life 6″ x 6″ DSP pack and then using the masks and Blending Brushes to add pink and blue ink to create a beautiful blend.

Step-by-Step Process
To create these cards, I started by stamping the flower outline from the new Thankful Garden stamp set onto the DSP in Memento Black ink twice for each card. Then, I used two of the three masks that come with the bundle to blend Petunia Pop and Boho Blue ink over the stamped images. These colors combined in the middle to create a gorgeous purple hue. (I didn’t use the third mask from the bundle because the base color was already there on the DSP.) I applied the same technique to the leaves using Shy Shamrock ink.

Next, I die-cut one of the flowers using the coordinating die and hand-trimmed some of the petals from the second stamped/inked flower. I layered the cut petals onto the full flower and attached them with Dimensionals for added depth and texture.

Finishing Touches
I die-cut one of the rectangles from the new Textured Notes dies (I see myself using these a lot on future projects!) and added a Boho Blue or Petunia Pop cardstock border. Then, I adhered it to one of the preprinted card bases from the Stripes & Florals Mix & Match cards & envelopes collection.

After stamping the sentiment on the right side, I adhered the layered flower on the left. To complete the cards, I added some Two-Toned Sparkled Gems to the center of a few petals, adding a final touch of elegance and shimmer.

I absolutely love how these cards turned out! A huge thank you to Patty for the inspiration. I can’t wait to create more variations using this bundle and technique!
