“Create” Canvas Project

| | | | |

I had so much fun making this 6″ x 6″ Canvas as part of the presentation that I did at the CTMH Convention last week. Christine Adams and I were tasked with showing some fun ways to use one of our new product lines coming out on August 1st, called Base and Bling. I can’t wait to share more of the projects we made with you.

To make this project, I started with a blank 6″ x 6″ Canvas.  I mixed six different colors of re-inker with some Create-A-Shade Pearl Paint. Then I brushed the colors onto the canvas at an angle with a sponge brush. I used my fingers to blend the colors together. It’s hard to see in the photos, but the background has a pretty shimmer to it from the Pearl Paint.

While the Canvas was drying, I stamped some images from the Quick Cards—Butterfly and Universal Backgrounds stamp sets onto some white tissue paper using CTMH’s Archival Black ink. (If you try this at home, make sure to put some scrap paper under your tissue paper before you stamp. Otherwise you will be enjoying those pretty butterflies on your stamping surface for a loooong time. Ask me how I know! LOL!) Once the ink dried, I tore the tissue paper around the butterflies and then tore strips of the script background stamped images.

Then I braved the dreaded Mod Podge (which I have a love/hate relationship with) and painted it onto the canvas. While it was still wet, I layered my torn stamped tissue images onto the Canvas and added more Mod Podge on top. While that was drying, I stamped the butterfly image onto a piece of vellum with some black pigment ink and then sprinkled some Clear Detailed Embossing Powder on top. I carefully heat set it with my Craft Heater and then colored it in with some CTMH Alcohol Markers, which work great on the vellum. After cutting out the butterfly, I rolled the wings a bit so that it had some dimension and then set it aside.

I grabbed some Dimensional Elements Monogram Letters from my stash and adhered them directly to the Canvas with some Liquid Glass. I added the butterfly by adding some Liquid Glass to his body and pressing it onto the center of the “C.”

I finished it off by adding the fun “inspire” Word Accent (available August 1st) and some of our new Pink, Purple, and Teal Bling Jewels (also available August 1st) to give my project a little sparkle.

If you decide to make one of these fun canvases, I’d love to see it. Make sure to post a link to your creations in a comment below.
