My First SU! Card

OK, so you are probably thinking, “Why in the world would Lisa (Ms. CTMH) make a card using Stampin’ Up products?” Well, to be honest I have liked many of their images for a long time and have always been curious about their products. I have a friend who is a SU! Demonstrator and she told me about the sale-a-bration promo that is going on right now, so I figured that now would be the time to try out some of their products. I actually got a bunch of different things including a few stamp sets, some patterned paper, rub-ons, punches, and a few other small things.
This is the first card I made with their products. I used SU’s Berry Bliss paper, and One of a Kind and Short & Sweet stamp sets. (Love the cute sayings and images in the Short & Sweet set.) I was a little bummed about having to cut the rubber and mount them myself. I knew that their stamps came that way, but never realized what a pain it would be. If I had as many SU! stamps as I do CTMH stamps, I’ll bet at least half of them would still be unmounted.

In any case, I got a few mounted and starting playing with them . I think I am a little spoiled with my clear stamps because I found it a bit hard to know where my image would end up. I used rubber stamps a few years ago but have since been using clear stamps, so stamping with these woodies was a bit awkward. I still love the images and will continue to use them, but probably not as much as I thought.

I wanted to add something in the middle of the flower so I used a sentiment from Papertrey’s Mixed Messages set. (It’s one of my favs!) I also wanted to add a small window charm but my CTMH ones were to big and the ones I have from Joann’s are very yellow. Oh well, I will figure out something…

  1. Great card. I too am one who has only used CTMH since signing up a year and a half ago. However, like you I have begun to venture out. I caught the Bella bug and have just got in on SU Sale a Bration and got some punches. Still can’t beat CTMH though, if only we had some cool punches!

  2. LOL Lisa. I, too, was enticed by the SU SaleABration. I got several punches that I had been eying for a while now (I think from watching Kathi use them so often!), but I got the stamp set that went with the scallop punch. As I looked at them (thankfully, mine were cut already), I thought – “Wow. It’s going to be hard to place this stamp where I want it.” Then, I was thinking, “I have to mount these?” Yeah, us CTMH people are spoiled, huh?

Anyhow … cute cute cute card!

And, thank you for my treats … which arrived in the mail yesterday. I’ll have fun playing with those treats. Thanks again!

  3. I am glad that I am not the only one who have found some neat things with SU! I love the stamps that are in the mini occasions catalog that are all pre cut and about the only way I will purchase a stamp. Cutting is hard in my opinion and since I learned to stamp with clear I feel very ackward not seeing what I am stamping- I bought 3 collections of DP and wish that we had something with a pattern on both sides. I love the punches too- maybe someday! Great card and thanks for sharing!

  4. LOL! It is a bit difficult to stamp blind! It’s sometimes a hit and miss thing! But. . .it’s good to experiment and venture out sometimes.

Love your card. . .it’s very pretty! The colors are fabulous and I love your layout!

  5. Lisa,
I love your blog and your stuff is wonderful! I am a CTMH gal as well and felt guily for shopping ebay for some “contraband” 🙂 I bought the scalloped punch and I’m about to buy some more. I wish CTMH would get on the punch wagon and get us some goodies like SU has. I am going to get me some of their BE-U-TFUL stamps as well. I think now they come die cut and punch out of the rubber sheet. I’m planning on buying some “cheap-o” acrylic blocks somewhere and using removable adhesive on the stamps. That way you get the goodness of their stamps and the “clear beauty” of the CTMH way that we are all so spoiled (me too y’all!) by. Maybe we should all write CTMH with our suggestions… I know they do listen, but would it work?? I’d love to be able to get punches and dies and die cutters and a variety of rub ons, and you know the list goes on.. and on… and on!
Hope you have a good night! OH…I love the things you post on the CTMH message board! You are GOOD at what you do! You should make some videos on your blog with instructions and how-to’s… like that card box you have listed on the msg. board….LOVE THAT!!
    Bye Bye!!
